BIO

My professional experience as a public-school teacher for over 10 years informs my role as a literacy researcher. As an elementary classroom teacher and reading specialist, I was able to implement effective, evidence-based instruction for diverse students, including English Language Learners and students receiving Special Education services, and mentor other teachers around effective literacy instruction. My research interests include effective early literacy instruction, identification of students who may be at-risk for reading difficulties, and effectively supporting teachers to implement effective instruction and assessment practices.  I have received training on a variety of quantitative methods and earned an Advanced Research Methods certificate in my doctoral studies. I have used a variety of literacy curriculums and programs during my time as a classroom teacher and reading specialist and bring my experience as a teacher to my role as a researcher in understanding the implementation needs in schools.
