BIO

Dr. Stan L. Bowie has been a Social Worker for 46 years. For the last 23 years, he has been on the faculty of the University of Tennessee/Knoxville (UTK) College of Social Work teaching courses in research methods, organizational management and leadership, social welfare policy, and community organization in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Prior to joining UTK, he was on the faculty of the Florida International University School of Social Work in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Bowie is an active and long-time leader and servant in Knoxville Tennessee’s Black Community and at UTK, and has been the recipient of several prestigious University awards for Excellence in Teaching and Community Service. He has authored 30 publications in scholarly research journals and co-authored four books, with most focusing on African American individuals and families in urban public housing communities and graduate social work education. Dr. Bowie received his degrees at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, the Atlanta University School of Social Work, and the Barry University School of Social Work in Miami, Florida.
