BIO

Before joining the University of Tennessee Knoxville College of Social Work, Professor Walker spent over 20 years in the non-profit sector working in local, national and international organizations. The beginning of her career was spent primarily in residential settings including managing a large domestic violence center in the Nashville area. Professor Walker also worked at the Vanderbilt Center of Excellence for Children in State’s Custody and most recently at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago. At Chapin Hall she served as an associate researcher and policy analyst evaluating and providing consultation to child welfare jurisdictions across the country. She is an alumna of UTCSW where she has also been an adjunct professor, field instructor and field liaison. Professor Walker is passionate about creating psychologically safe and trauma informed organizational cultures. She also believes social workers should be active in the political process and frequently supports political action through volunteering in her local community. As a first-generation college student, Professor Walker understands the value of education and looks forward to influencing future social workers through education and mentoring.
